Garland Jeffreys: The King of In Between examines the fifty-year career of this genre-bending, biracial singer-songwriter. He was an early contemporary of Lou Reed, Andy Warhol and others since his start in the Greenwich Village clubs. Yet even after an early MTV hit (Hail, Hail Rock and Roll) Jeffreys never quite reached the success predicted for him. This film explores why and how his commitment to writing about race in America is more relevant now than ever.
